Imagine a world in which Karl Marx was able to find space in a hotel so that he could actually use the ticket he bought to the first performance of Wagner's Ring Cycle. Seriously. Consider the implications.
Crazy, right?

Are you referring to the first performance of Das Rheingold on 22 September 1869, or the first performance of the entire ring on 13 August 1876? Of course, both occurred between publication of the first and second volumes of Das Kapital, so perhaps it makes little difference. Unless you are referring to an actual historical unused ticket.
ReplyDeleteThere actually was a historical unused ticket; it was for the full performance in '76. Though as you say, the historical implications would likely be similar.
